The same footage. Two ways of seeing the herd.

Sometimes the monitoring picture comes together in phases. Mobility gets tracked one way. Body condition gets assessed another, usually by eye, whenever there's time to walk the herd properly. Each method gives you a singular, partial view, on different schedules. Bringing the two pictures together usually means comparing notes from different days.

It's worth being clear about where CattleEye's value actually sits, because it isn't the camera. The hardware is deliberately ordinary and accessible, a standard 2D camera. The camera is off-the-shelf and can be mounted above the parlour exit.

The work happens after the footage is captured. CattleEye's computer vision analyses the same video feed and extracts two independent readings from it - a mobility score and a body condition score. These are generated from cows doing nothing more than walking past a point underneath the lens that they've walked past a thousand times before. Nothing new for the herd to adjust to.

A cow's mobility and her body condition aren't separate stories. A cow losing condition too quickly post-calving is often the same cow whose gait is starting to change, and catching one without the other means capturing half the picture. When both scores come from the same footage, on the same day, they sit together the way they should, rather than arriving from two different systems on two different timelines.

This is where scientific validation matters (see our Evidence page). CattleEye's mobility scoring performs on par with a trained mobility scorer, present and delivering that consistency 365 days a year. The same standard applies to body condition scoring, validated as on par with human assessment, done daily rather than occasionally. Neither reading is a rougher, automated approximation of the real thing. Both are built to the same bar as the manual version, just without the gaps that come from only being able to walk a herd so often.

None of this asks a farm to change how it operates or add a task to the day. The camera that's already doing one job is quietly doing a second, because of what's processing what it records. Two readings with one pass. The same cow, seen more fully than either measurement could manage on its own.
